<title>Deval Patrick rallies with local Democrats</title>
<link>http://www.thesunchronicle.com/articles/2006/11/06/news/news1.txt</link>
<description>Gubernatorial candidate Deval Patrick made a last-minute campaign
stop in Norton Sunday to boost the candidacy of fellow Democrat
  Claire Naughton for state representative.

Patrick, the front-runner heading into Tuesday&#x27;s election with
Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, said if he is elected governor, he is going
to need like-minded allies like Naughton in the Legislature to help
him turn the state around. &#x22;We&#x27;re about problem solving, not point
scoring. She is exactly that kind of person,&#x22; he said.

<description>Claire Naughton is the person to represent Mansfield, Foxboro and
Norton. Jay&#x27;s focus is business; Claire&#x27;s focus is the people who
  live in the district. [...]

   She Claire is &#x22;the People&#x27;s Candidate.&#x22; She&#x27;s a retired teacher
(32 years), and knows education, and will work full-time for us. She
wants healthcare for all our citizens, and does not support an
increase in the gas tax. She firmly believes the state can do a
better job and to start financing their expensive mandates to
schools and towns. Yes, she will be in the majority of the State
House, but remember, that will help her accomplish her goals, which
  in turn will help us.

Please watch Community Chat on Cable 9 when I interview Claire
Naughton for state representative and Jim Timilty for state
senate. Jay Barrows declined my invitation to be interviewed.

<description>Claire has attended every town meeting in the district since she
began her campaign. Case in point: on the rainy evening of Oct. 11,
there was a town meeting in Norton. There were five candidates there
and a sea of signs - until 7 p.m. Then all of the candidates and
their supporters melted away into the night - except Claire
Naughton, who went into the Norton town meeting and listened to what
people in our community were saying.

That&#x27;s the kind of local dedication that gets my vote, and I hope
that you will join me in voting for Claire on Nov. 7. Cheryl and

<title>Martin: Can&#x27;t count on Republicans to fund schools</title>
<link>http://clairenaughton.com/Press/press20061006martinletter.html</link>
<description>[...] one of the primary reasons we need to elect these Democrats
to their respective offices is that we can&#x27;t count on the Republicans
to fairly fund our school system.

I did some research on the state budget allocation for Mansfield
schools over the last few years and found that if we had to rely
exclusively on the Republicans to fund our schools over the last two
years, we would have had $509,965 less in the Mansfield school
budget. Mansfield has one of the best school systems in the state (and
one of the best in the nation) a fact we can all be very proud
of. Imagine having to cut another $500,000 from our school budget. A
cut like that would have resulted in Mansfield laying off additional
teachers or making due with bigger class sizes or perhaps eliminating
some of the advanced programs we have for our students.

<title>State representative candidates differ over tax cut</title>
<link>http://www.thesunchronicle.com/articles/2006/08/16/city/city7.txt</link>
<description>Naughton, a former school teacher, said her position on taxes is
that the state should provide more aid to cities and towns so they can
reduce property taxes. The only way the state could afford to do that
is by keeping the income tax rate at its current level of 5.3 percent,
she said. Property taxes are more regressive and hurt senior citizens
  on fixed incomes, she said.

<title>Naughton kicks off campaign</title>
<link>http://www.thesunchronicle.com/articles/2006/08/02/city/city8.txt</link>
<description>Naughton, a retired teacher, said her formal announcement came as
she was receiving endorsements from the Massachusetts Federation of
Teachers and the Boston Teachers Union.

In an interview, she said towns such as Norton are being
shortchanged by the state when it comes to aid. She said a new school
funding formula is needed to make sure all communities are treated
fairly. More state aid also would help take some of the pressure off
local property taxes, she said. Naughton said improving commuter rail
service would be another priority if she is elected. </description>
