Deval Patrick rallies with local Democrats, Sun Chronicle (Attleboro)
Gubernatorial candidate Deval Patrick made a last-minute campaign stop in Norton Sunday to boost the candidacy of fellow Democrat Claire Naughton for state representative.
Patrick, the front-runner heading into Tuesday's election with Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, said if he is elected governor, he is going to need like-minded allies like Naughton in the Legislature to help him turn the state around. "We're about problem solving, not point scoring. She is exactly that kind of person," he said.

Royle: Naughton will work full-time for district, Mansfield News
Claire Naughton is the person to represent Mansfield, Foxboro and Norton. Jay's focus is business; Claire's focus is the people who live in the district. [...]
She Claire is "the People's Candidate." She's a retired teacher (32 years), and knows education, and will work full-time for us. She wants healthcare for all our citizens, and does not support an increase in the gas tax. She firmly believes the state can do a better job and to start financing their expensive mandates to schools and towns. Yes, she will be in the majority of the State House, but remember, that will help her accomplish her goals, which in turn will help us.
Please watch Community Chat on Cable 9 when I interview Claire Naughton for state representative and Jim Timilty for state senate. Jay Barrows declined my invitation to be interviewed.

Naughton has shown local dedication, Norton Mirror
Claire has attended every town meeting in the district since she began her campaign. Case in point: on the rainy evening of Oct. 11, there was a town meeting in Norton. There were five candidates there and a sea of signs - until 7 p.m. Then all of the candidates and their supporters melted away into the night - except Claire Naughton, who went into the Norton town meeting and listened to what people in our community were saying.
That's the kind of local dedication that gets my vote, and I hope that you will join me in voting for Claire on Nov. 7. Cheryl and Larry Carter

Martin: Can't count on Republicans to fund schools, Mansfield News
[...] one of the primary reasons we need to elect these Democrats to their respective offices is that we can't count on the Republicans to fairly fund our school system.
I did some research on the state budget allocation for Mansfield schools over the last few years and found that if we had to rely exclusively on the Republicans to fund our schools over the last two years, we would have had $509,965 less in the Mansfield school budget. Mansfield has one of the best school systems in the state (and one of the best in the nation) a fact we can all be very proud of. Imagine having to cut another $500,000 from our school budget. A cut like that would have resulted in Mansfield laying off additional teachers or making due with bigger class sizes or perhaps eliminating some of the advanced programs we have for our students.

It's Naughton in a landslide, Mansfield News
Following a landslide victory Tuesday, Foxboro Democrat Claire Naughton will face Mansfield Republican Fred "Jay" Barrows in November's state election in the race for the 1st Bristol District representative seat.
[...]
"I had a very organized campaign, I think that was a great part of (winning the election)," said Naughton. "I think the fact I did so much door-to-door, have lived in the district for such a long time and have been active in the district too (were factors as well)." - 2006-09-22:
Barrows, Naughton to vie for First Bristol in November, Norton Mirror
"I'll do exactly what ve been doing," she said. "I'm going to keep on going door-to-door, keep on talking to people and send the message I had before. We need to bring in more (local) money for our schools, fire and police departments."

Contenders hope to take House seat from GOP
The three Democrats vying for the open First Bristol House seat serve together on the Foxborough Democratic Committee. [...] State Democratic leaders hope the collegiality among the contenders for the open House of Representatives seat will boost the party's chances of winning a seat that has been in Republican hands ever since the district was created in 1992. - 2006-09-01:
Naughton makes second bid, Norton Mirror
"All those years of being a teacher and being a leader in so many different organizations, I won't be afraid to get up and speak, and I don't take no for an answer." Naughton, who has attended all the meetings related to the new mall complex to be built at Gillette Stadium, as well town meetings in Norton and Mansfield, said she has become very familiar with the local political landscape.

State representative candidates differ over tax cut, Sun Chronicle (Attleboro)
Naughton, a former school teacher, said her position on taxes is that the state should provide more aid to cities and towns so they can reduce property taxes. The only way the state could afford to do that is by keeping the income tax rate at its current level of 5.3 percent, she said. Property taxes are more regressive and hurt senior citizens on fixed incomes, she said.

Naughton kicks off campaign, Sun Chronicle (Attleboro)
Naughton, a retired teacher, said her formal announcement came as she was receiving endorsements from the Massachusetts Federation of Teachers and the Boston Teachers Union.
In an interview, she said towns such as Norton are being shortchanged by the state when it comes to aid. She said a new school funding formula is needed to make sure all communities are treated fairly. More state aid also would help take some of the pressure off local property taxes, she said. Naughton said improving commuter rail service would be another priority if she is elected.

Endorsements in Hand, Naughton Opens Mansfield Office, Norton Mirror
Claire believes that the recent Proposition 2 1/2 overrides, such as the one in Norton, is proof that the state needs to provide more financial help to our towns. Our towns should not be placed in a position to continuously be forced to raise their property taxes to pay for services they can't afford.

Historic houses may fall to the wrecking ball, Boston Globe
Claire Naughton, a Foxborough Democratic activist and candidate for state representative this year, has spoken out against the planned demolitions and called for the buildings to be preserved on their sites. "I can't imagine what it would do to the center of town for the Carpenter House to be gone," Naughton said. "It would change the face of the town."
We have all watched as our governor's race has become characterized by some of the nastiest advertising we have seen in years, and I had sincerely hoped that we would not see the same kind of behavior in our local races. In the past weeks, [Jay Barrows] has done little other than shout accusations and untruths about Claire. He is trying to distract us from what is really at stake in this election [...] Negative campaigning has no place in our community - it is sleazy, and we are above it. This is not the way we do things here.
I encourage you to vote for Claire Naughton. She has consistently talked about the issues that matter to our community, and about what she plans to do to improve our schools, access to healthcare, and local services. Claire has run a substantive campaign, and I want to thank her for that. I think, as a community, we can all appreciate how positive she has been and how focused on the issues.
