Naughton campaign opens headquarters in Mansfield, earns endorsements
Friday, July 21, 2006

Claire Naughton, candidate for State Representative from the First Bristol district which includes Foxboro, Mansfield, and Norton, is pleased to announce that she has opened her campaign headquarters at 8 Pleasant Street Apt. 1 in Mansfield. The phone number is 508-339-9800. The primary election will be on Sept. 19 and the general election is on Nov. 7.
Naughton is proud of her showing last February in the special election against Ginny Coppola, who won the seat vacated by her recently deceased husband, Michael. Ginny has chosen not to seek reelection. Claire feels confident that she is the best candidate for this seat.

Claire has been a resident of Foxboro for over 35 years and is the mother of two children who went through the Foxboro school system. Both Claire and her husband Dennis are retired educators. Claire believes that she best understands the issues in the district.
Claire is a past president of the Foxboro Historical Society and also a past co-chair of the Foxborough League of Women Voters. She is a current member and former chair of the Foxboro Democratic Town Committee. She has also been an elected member of the Democratic State Committee for the past six years, representing the district that includes Foxboro, Mansfield, and Norton. For the past 13 years Claire also has been the chair of the Foxboro Registrars of Voters, a position from which she has chosen to take a leave of absence during the campaign.
Claire believes that the recent Proposition 2 1/2 overrides, such as the one in Norton, is proof that the state needs to provide more financial help to our towns. Our towns should not be placed in a position to continuously be forced to raise their property taxes to pay for services they can't afford. Many of these expenses are unfunded state mandates. Chapter 70 funding is finally increasing over the 2002 levels. Now is not the time for rebuilding our state rainy day funds. It's raining now. Help the towns maintain services. We have 4 years of low funding to make up for.
Naughton's commitment to our families has already earned her the endorsements of:
    ?Massachusetts Federation of Teachers
    ?Boston Teachers Union
?United Auto Workers, Region 9A CAP Council
?International Union of Operating Engineers Local #4
    ?Sierra Club, Massachusetts Chapter
    ?Clean Water Action
?National Organization for Women, Massachusetts Chapter
    ?Planned Parenthood Action Fund
    ?Mass Alliance
    ?NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts
?National Association of Social Workers/MA PACE
    ?Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus
The kickoff fundraiser will be on Wednesday July 26th. Please call the office for details.
